On Thursday evening 17 augustus, with calm weather, we went to the Duindamse Slag for the next challenge in the TVB club competition: a Swim-Run, sea edition. Niels has created a beautiful story with his experience in this edition!

After a short but nice briefing by Cees, we walked together, 6 male/female strong, enthusiastically to the beach for the start. Once at the sea, the calm weather did not seem to have reached the sea and there was still quite a wave. We started off in a wonderful southerly direction with the wind and current behind us 500 meter zwemmen. Kees lay halfway with his SUP and acted as a buoy and for some as a nice resting point. Once we arrived at Kees it turned out to be a little further than 250m…. The way back turned out to be a nice battle with the waves and current ( a few decided to walk back via the beach earlier, something to do with the cold I believe….) but after a few big gulps of seawater we were able to swim 750m to the transition zone. Quickly put on your shoes and head out on the warpath 2: 4,5km run on a beautiful flat shell path. The back and forth provided a nice picture of the mutual differences (and the reassurance that all participants were safely out of the sea again). This also made for a great battle until the end. At the finish a cup of coffee with a TVB cookie.

All in all a tough one, but very fun but tough event in the club competition. Many thanks to the organization and volunteers (Krista, Cees, Kees, Walter, Jeannette & Caroline) for this fun evening and hopefully again next year with more participants!
